When I was a child, this holiday always served as the beginning of summer because of how late the school year ended in New York.
It is also another holiday where there are plenty of food temptations out there to throw you off your healthy food game.
Well have no fear!
Here are 3 simple swaps you can make There is nothing I love more than kicking back on the weekend.
Swap Hot Dogs for Bacon Brussel Sprouts
I love bacon, so any excuse to eat it works for me. This is a big hit at parties and great way to include healthy vegetables for those picky eaters in your house. All you need is bacon, brussel sprouts, and any spices that you enjoy. Wrap one piece of bacon around each brussel sprouts. Try to get at least two layers around. You can either back them in the oven at 375 for 20 minutes or on the grill for the same cooking time.
Swap Ice Cream for Blueberry Fat Bombs
Since I switched to keto, I experiment with different desserts substitutes. This is one of my favorites and super kid friendly. In a bowl mix frozen blueberries, almond butter (or other nut butter), and walnuts. Use a small spoon to scoop out small circles on a baking sheet. Get the kids involve if there are old enough. Bake in the oven at 400 degrees for 10 minutes or longer depending on your desired texture preference. I like mine softer.
Swap Juice Boxes for Fruit Smoothies
My Instagram is full of pictures of my smoothies. To me, there are a great meal substitute as well as substituting a more sugary beverage. When you start, you can master the art of hiding vegetables in these drinks from your kids and other “non-vegetable” lover adults.
